Formulas

A formula tells the spreadsheet to calculate something automatically.
For example:
- =A1+B1
Formulas always begin with =
We use formulas for two reasons:
- It saves us having to calculate a cell value every time we change something
- It means there are fewer opportunities for mistakes

Examples - adding two numbers

Adding cells together can be done with the following formula:

= A1 + 4

= A1 + B2

What is a spreadsheet Function?

A function is a built-in formula
For example:
- = SUM(A1 : A10) - from cell A1 to cell A10
- = SUM(A1 : B3) - from cell A1 to cell B3
SUM adds numbers together automatically.

MAX - gets the maximum number in the range of cells
MIN - gets the minimum number in the range of cells
COUNT - tells us how many cells are in the range
